How to replace negative thoughts. We have both a conscious mind and a subconscious mind. Unfortunately, it is often our subconsious mind that directs our actions, despite the best intentions of our conscious mind. Here is an exercise that will help you identify and replace negative thoughts from your subconscious mind: Sit in a quiet, comfortable place where you will not be disturbed. Take a sheet of paper and draw a line down the middle. Let's suppose that you just started a new job and you are very insecure about your ability to do the job successfully. Your subconscious mind is constantly telling you, “You can't do it!” In the left column write a Positive Affirmation (a positive statement that is the thought that you want to have in your mind). An example would be, “I will be very confident and successful in my new job.” Writing is very important here. Don't just think it. Then, just sit quietly and listen to your inner voice. You will probably receive a response like, “You will fail”. Write this response in the right hand column. Write the Positive Affirmation again and listen to the response. Write the response again. You will find that after 10-20 repetitions, the negative voice will become silent. Keep writing your Positive Affirmation. In a few more repetitions, you will begin to hear your inner voice say something like, “Yes, you will be successful!”. Congratulations! You have just reprogrammed your subconscious with positive and useful thoughts that will give more confidence to your actions!
